Mission: Green Sky
After meeting with the captain, T'Razz made his way to the XO's office. He was already thinking that this was going to be an interesting assignment. He had to move around several crewmembers who were working on various tasks in the corridor
The XO was someone T'Razz was looking forward to meeting. A member of a species from a colder world, she required a special suit to function in the regular environment of the rest of the crew. T'Razz had handled some general work on development of various environmental suits while on Jupiter Station, but had never met someone who used one.
Arriving at the office, T' Razz pressed the chime and waited.
T'Zara looked up from the after report for E.D.E.N., wondering who it was and reached to unlock the door seal. "Enter," she called out as a waft of cold air came from her suit. She really disliked that everyone on starships was so hot, but she had made the choice to enter Starfleet and would take the consequences and the cryosuit she wore everywhere.
When the doors opened, T'Razz entered the room. "Good day, Commander," he said. "I am Doctor T'Razz, the new chief medical officer. I just arrived on board, and have already checked in with the captain. I was just stopping by to check in with you as well."
T'Zara looked up and gave the Caitian a smile without showing her teeth and gestured towards a seat in front of her desk with one hand. Her other tapped the console in front of her and entered his name to bring up his file. "Please, have a seat and tell me something that isn't in your file that makes you you."
T'Razz took the indicated chair, and thought for a moment over the interesting question. "I do enjoy a good bajoran jumja stick after a game of dom-jot," he finally replied.
"So, you take risks and consume things that are bad for you. Noted," T'Zara said with the corners of her lips turning upwards slightly. "Do you take the same approach with patients?"
"Not so much in areas of doing things that are not so healthy," T'Razz said. "In the category of taking risks, hopefully being put into a position where taking a chance with medical treatment would be something that I would be forced to do, though I understand that there are times where...the humans have a saying about sometimes having to decide between the lesser of two evils. Certainly that applies in medicine. As a doctor, there may well be times that I'm faced with having to make a decision on a course of treatment for a patient and I simply do not have the time to run a thousand different tests to determine the best treatment. A decision must be made immediately, and I would by extension be taking a chance on the treatment being chosen would be the best available one."
"That is the best answer for triage that I have ever heard," the blue skinned Menthian said. "I had no idea so many ways could explain it so elaborately. However, if the method works and saves the patient, I approve. Especially if I am the patient."
"Yes, over many centuries of medicine from many species, and that's just counting Federation member worlds, we've had the need to put those ideas into use more times than we really care to admit to," T'Razz said, "as much as we wish we didn't have to. But we have also learned much from doing so."
"What do you know of my species?" T'Zara asked.
"I have given a basic review of the information available on the Menthian species after receiving this assignment, largely concentrating from a medical viewpoint, of course," T'Razz acknowledged, "I have some prior experience with working with environmental suits such as yours when I was working in my previous post on Jupiter Station. Certainly you come from an interesting species. I imagine you may have heard comparisons to other species such as the Andorians."
"I have indeed and find Captain sh'Zamhlass's presence quite comforting and refreshing," T'Zara said with a smile. "As for my environmental suit, it was custom made for me. I can have the requirements transferred to Medical for your perusal."
"That would be a wise idea," T'Razz said. "I should be aware of the specifics of such technology, so as to be able to help with its upkeep and to be aware of any other issues involving it that might come along."
"I will also submit for my full physical so you can have a up to date baseline to work off of," T'Zara added. "I do not wish for either of us to start off on the wrong ice shelf."
T'Razz nodded. "That would be appreciated. Is there anything else that you feel should be brought up at this time?"
"No, but I will alert you if anything does need addressed," T'Zara said. "Do you have any questions for me?"
"Not at the moment, though I shall also alert you in return if there's anything that I feel should be brought up."
T'Zara entered his authorization code into the computer and handed him a PADD. "Here's all your shift assignments and everything you should need during your time on the ship. If you need anything, my door is always open. Welcome aboard."
"Thank you, Commander," T'Razz said, taking the padd. "Glad to be here."
